Super Bowl LVII is this Sunday, with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Both teams finished the season with a 14-3 record and were the #1 seed in their respective divisions heading into the playoffs. That alone should make this an entertaining battle from start to finish, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves – recent, past Super Bowl’s that looked great on paper ended with an unfulfilling finish (Buccaneers vs. Chiefs in 2021 and Patriots vs. Rams in 2019 are two that come to mind).
Kansas City will be out for Super Bowl revenge, hoping to perform better this year than in 2021 when the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown in a lopsided 31-9 defeat to the Super Bowl LV Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Patrick Mahomes will return to the Super Bowl for the third time in his fifth season, where he’s 1-1. Mahomes’ health has been in question leading up to the Super Bowl, but we won’t be sure of his diagnosis until he takes the field at 6:30pm CST.
On the other side of the ball, the Philadelphia Eagles return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2018, when former-Bears Nick Foles and Alshon Jeffrey upset the New England Patriots 41-33. While Foles won’t be under center this year, third-year starting quarterback Jalen Hurts will lead the Eagles’ offense. Despite injuries during the season, Hurts ended 2021-22 with an impressive 101.6 quarterback rating, deriving from 22 TDs, 6 INTs and throwing for 3,701 yards.
