The #1 overall team in the B1G 10 Conference as of week 6 is none other than your Terrapins or Maryland. The Terps, just 1-0 in Conference play after having their way with the Minnesota Gophers last weekend, having already defeated the Texas Longhorns earlier this year, could play the upset role as they face Shea Patterson and the Michigan Wolverines (#15).
If LSU (#5) really is for real, the can prove it this weekend as heading into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and defeating the Florida Gators (#22) would certainly make an impression on the NCAA Selection Committee. After this week’s match-up with the top-25 ranked Florida Gators, the Tigers will play two of their next three games against (currently) the top two teams in the county, Georgia Bulldogs (#2) and Alabama Crimson Tide (#1). To say they have the 11th toughest schedule currently in college football doesn’t tell the whole story, as LSU is a realistic candidate for the College Football Playoff, so these games mean more than say, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who sit at #6.
Other games to note are the aformentioned Texas Longhorns (#19) visiting the Oklahoma Sooners (#7) on Saturday morning. The Kentucky Wildcats (#13) – who also need to prove if they are, in fact, real – face probably their toughest opponent of the season as they visit the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies will not only have home-field advantage but their 2 losses this season were to the #1 (at Alabama, 23-45) and #2 (vs. Clemson, 26-28) teams ranked at the time. Saturday night will also feature the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (#6) taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies (#24).
